¶ Project Zomboid: How to Fix Malformed Packet Detected
If you've added mods to your server and keep getting kicked with a "Malformed Packet Detected" error, this is usually caused by specific mods triggering the built-in anticheat. The error message will include a number that tells you exactly which protection type is causing the issue.
¶ Step 1: Identify the Protection Type
1. Look at the error message carefully. It will reference a specific AntiCheatProtectionType number, for example AntiCheatProtectionType12.
2. Note down the number — this is the only one you need to disable.
¶ Step 2: Open Advanced Server Settings
1. In your Indifferent Broccoli panel, click Advanced Server Settings (ini and lua).
¶ Step 3: Disable the Specific Protection Type
1. Scroll down in the ini settings and find AntiCheatProtectionType.
2. Find the specific numbered entry that matches your error and set only that one to false.
Important: Only disable the specific
AntiCheatProtectionTypenumber shown in your error. Disabling all anticheat protections leaves your server vulnerable to cheating and should be avoided.
¶ Step 4: Save and Restart
1. Click Save Configs & Restart Server.
2. If you are still getting kicked, repeat the process for any additional protection types shown in new error messages.
