Riverside is one of the smaller towns in Project Zomboid but also hosts the unique fact that it is a town along the water, offering a supply of fish and a great place to start a base secured by water. Riverside also does not have a very high zombie population, making it a bit easier than Muldraugh or WestPoint and is only beaten in zombie population by Rosewood. Riverside has much more loot in comparison to Rosewood, so it is the ideal starting place for those looking to get extremely good loot without much of a challenge. This guide will go through some of the best locations for loot and bases in Riverside.

As with most towns in Project Zomboid, it's best to start off by getting some gear and weapons. Head up to the northwestern part of town and across from a gas station you'll see Riverside's little police station (6099x5275). In here you'll be able to find a somewhat limited supply of weapons and gear, but it's better than nothing. Luckily Riverside doesn't have a high zombie population in the first place, so it should be more than enough to survive.
Continuing down the street to the east, you'll find the U.S. Postal Service (6315x5222), this location in particular has a lot of books which is a good place to get started with improving your skills and knowledge. You'll also be able to find some other random loot here that might be helpful such as bags and storage.
Continuing east, you'll be able to find a strip mall complete with a bookstore, pharmacy, and two clothing stores (6429x5267). You'll be able to find some medicinal supplies in the pharmacy and even more books in the bookstore, making it even easier in Riverside to be able to increase your education and skills. Surrounding this strip are even more shops such as Gigamart which you'll be able to find some much needed food in.
Now that you're stacked on loot, there are a lot of places to choose for your base. Almost all of the houses in Riverside are part of a gated community (6710x5512). These houses not only provide some great protection from zombies but also can have some very good loot. Because these are also upper class houses, they're also a lot bigger than most houses in the game. making them perfect for a group of players looking to each have their own rooms.
Riverside is one of the best locations to start for a small group of players who are new to the game and want a slower start. Riverside is farther away from most major cities like Muldraugh, but it's a good place to get started, start a base, and get a car to go to other cities.
