Fabric is a lighweight and fast mod loader for Minecraft. It is much faster than Forge, and is the best choice if you have the option between Forge and Fabric. This is because Fabric loads the game nearly at the vanilla speeds, while depending on your computer, Forge may take over 10 minutes to load the game with a modpack installed.
Instead of downloading a separate installer for each version, Fabric has one installer that you can use to select your preferred version. Simply go to the official Fabric site and download the installer. Once you have downloaded the installer, run it and you'll see the screen to select your version.
Once you've installed the version of Fabric you want to install, you can then select it from the Minecraft launcher. It'll launch in about the same time as the vanilla game will take, which is Fabric's biggest advantage.
Similar to Forge, for Fabric you'll put the jar files for the mods in a mods folder. These files must be installed on both the server and your computer for them to work. To find the mods folder on your computer, you can switch to the Installations tab in the Minecraft launcher and click the folder icon on fabric.
You'll then see the folder for the fabric installation open. Here' you'll see the mods folder, which you can drop your fabric jar files into.
To make things simple, you'll need the same version of Fabric and mods on your computer and the server. With indifferent broccoli, we make the server side installation simple. Just go to the Change Server Type tab and select Fabric.
Your server will wipe and set up again. Once this is complete, open up the File Manager
You'll now see a /mods/
folder in /minecraft/
which you can put your jar files in to install the mods on the server. Once you put the mods on the server, go back to the control panel and restart the server. All players joining the server will need to have the same mods installed on their computers or else they won't be able to connect to the server. For step by step instructions, see our guide on installing mods.
If your mods/modpack require a certain version of Fabric, you can use our guide on switching the Fabric version to switch to the correct Minecraft and Fabric version. Make sure to also switch to the same version on your computer.
